Flower festival

Our parish church has held a themed flower festival for the past 10 yrs. this year the theme was jubilation a and celebrations.
As it is my silver wedding anniversary next year I chose to do the celebration of marriage for my display.
The photos aren't very good as I used my phone camera. But I made a two tier cake using spray chrysanthemums. I also made a bridal bouquet and managed to fit a brides veil into the display. I draped the floor with a piece of lace to represent a train. I was quite pleased as I'm no flower arranger.

Summer garden.

I am shocked at the mess my garden has got into. The rain hasn't helped matters there are weeds everywhere. The fact that I have been studying has also greatly added to the problem. I don't know where to start.

Friday 29 June 2012

This was Thursday afternoon, we had a torrential rain storm. The pictures are taken from the window so do not show clear images. We were very lucky, the water was about an inch below the front door step. Nearby homes were flooded and people were stranded in cars for hours.

My youngest son was bitterly disapointed as it was his school prom. Months of planning, dinner suit organised and  a hired limousine to travel in. We battled through the traffic and flooded roads to get to the boys meeting place, off they set and unfortunately they had a message to say it had been cancelled due to the weather. By this time the sun was out and the weather was nice all evening. I feel for the families who have struggled to provide their child with what they probably could not afford. I really think that the prom idea is a lot of pressure for a lot of people, whats wrong with a school disco to celebrate leaving school?

Continued!

Nursing has changed dramatically over the last decade. The good old days have gone when we had time to have a little fun. How the uniform has changed, control of infection would have a fit if I turned up in this uniform today!!

Bogged down!

I am currently studying a nursing course in sharp wound debridement! It is a task that I have done for twenty five years but there has never been a formal training course on the subject. So I have been spending my evenings and weekends off writing a 2500 word assignment. I am out of the study mode and struggling to concentrate. All I want to do is sit down with a hook and a ball of wool instead of this!!!

Appleby fair.

Although I didn't go to appleby this year I found some photos that I liked. I can count well over forty horses on this one. It's a rare sight and personally what the fair was once about. Today there are so many want to be's who really only want to be for the week of the fair if you know what I mean. Some nice photography.

Another find from Aladdins Cave!

On the day I found the tall glass jar that I am using to display my cup cake cases I also found this bed. I had spotted it a few months ago but at the time couldn't justify buying it as it was just after Christmas. However, it was always in the back of my mind, wishing I had got it as the chance wouldn't come again etc., etc. So, on the day I called in to buy the glass jar I happened to spot it again, nearly hidden under other items for sale. It was lucky I had my hubby with me and he was in the mood to haggle. He got a few quid knocked off the original price. It took a lot cleaning and polishing with brasso, a new mattress was bought and slats to hold it in place. I love it even though I have to be careful not to fall out as it is quite high.

P.S. I didn't get the ironing done, had a trip down memory lane in the photo box at home! Best get into the bed now, work tomorrow!

Today the weather was promising, bright an sunny. However, within the last hour it has become very cold and windy. The blossom is getting blown off the trees. Looks like the ironing will get done this afternoon after all!

At last the rain has stopped here in Co. Durham. The garden is waterlogged but its nice to get a little sunshine and fresh air. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Thursday 10 May 2012

This little vixen has been visiting for a number of years now. A neighbour of ours started leaving tit bits for her during a harsh winter and it has continued ever since. She comes each night at the same time and sits in the middle of the field behind our house and waits for something to be put out for her, then off she goes. We don't know where she has her cubs and I have never seen her bring her young with her. So I presume she must travel quite a distance each night. I only hope she is still hunting naturally and not relying on these tit bits to survive.

Sunday 6 May 2012

I have been looking for a glass spaghetti jar for sometime now to store & display my cup-cake cases in. However, everyone I saw was too small or made from plastic. By chance I visited "Aladdin's Cave" and found the perfect thing. I think originally it must have been a laboratory container and someone added a sweet jar lid. I quickly agreed a price, rushed home and gave it a good clean. It looks very impressive and blends in with my other glass items.

Happy Easter.

Theres been lots going on this Easter. We started with a cup cake competition for charity at work. One of the girls I work with has a little boy who was born with a cleft lip and palate. The treatment they have had has been fantastic so she tries to raise money for the charity CLAPA. We decided to have a cup cake competition and my theme was springtime cup cakes. We raised £300 for the fund so she was delighted.

My niece came for the weekend and we decorated the window again and made an Easter wreath. We also had a Easter egg hunt in the garden, two eggs still missing!! Then we had another trip to Beamish and fortunately there was some new born lambs for them to see. Quite a nice weekend was had.
